TOUR ACTIVITIES:
Enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of the Malborough Sounds on the ferry from Wellington to Picton
No better way to enjoy the crossing between the two islands. Once clear of Cook Strait we enter the sheltered waters of the Queen Charlotte Sound, home to our next two nights adventures. Picton at the end of the sound is our destinaton before boarding a second water taxi and being whisked up to our waiting lodge.
Kayak amidst fascinating native birds and outstanding marine life
Okarito Lagoon is the only breeding ground for our rare native White Herron and the network of small tributaries are best explored by stable double kayak. These allow us to glide through the sheltered waters and get close to the birdlife, or just experience a new skill. For the non paddlers, the nearby trig station provides an excellent walk with a spectacular viewpoint on a fine day.
Experience the golden beaches hiking New Zealand's smallest, but beautiful National Park: Abel Tasman N.P.
From the lodge we have a number of choices. A full days walking on the Queen Charlotte Sound walkway around the coast or the shorter half day option. Of course the chance to sit on the deck and sunbath and swim can be seen by some as an attractive choice as well!
Experience an underground cave rafting trip at the rugged West Coast
Underworld rafting is an opportunity to enjoy the thrill of caving with a float trip down the underground river until it emerges into the surrounding rainforest. Complete with wet suit and headlamp this is an awesome way to explore an underground wonderland.
Climb a glacier of over several thousand years old and 13km long!
Do you want ice with that? Experience walking on 1000 year old ice as it races to the sea. This is a 4 hour round trip starting from the glacier snout and hiking through the surrounding rainforest before descending onto the ice with our guide. We stay clear of any big holes and have a fun time looking for hobbits and other rare creatures.
Get the adrenaline pumping by going for a speedy jet boat ride on the remote Wilkin River
What better way to enjoy the remote, rugged scenery of the Southern Alps than by jet boat? From where the river ends at the Tasman sea, to the turn around point, our purpose built jetboat is the perfect vehicle to enjoy the surrounding mountains and the rolling, tumbling rapids.
Enjoy a beautiful hike to a spectacular viewpoint overlooking the lake before experiencing a unique wine tasting and visual of the local vineyards.
Lake Wanaka provides a spectacular scenery when viewed from the summit above Diamond lake. Enjoy the 3 hour round trip or shorten this to a 45 minute hike to the viewing platform. On board the coach we stop off at a new concept in wine tasting which involves educating your taste of smell before viewing a spectacular helicopter simulated flight through the vineyards of the local region.
